The film takes its family undercurrent very seriously, and I actually felt this worked well for the film, mostly because of the performances. Yes, it's derivate, and filled with clichés. Complications ensue when he finds himself suddenly thrust back in the spy game, needing to track down a ruthless terrorist. A rare brain tumor leaves him with 3 months left to live, propelling Costner to "get his affairs in order" and re-establish some sort of relationship.

Like countless other movie spies, this one has a complicated family life, having an estranged wife and daughter. The film sees Kevin Costner as an effective, if gruff and over-the-hill, CIA spy. It's a blend of a film that never quite knows what it wants to be, delivering mixed results on screen. Decent movie with checking out.ģ Days to Kill is an action film, a dark comedy, and a heartfelt family drama. But, then it would have been something completely different. Had this been R rated and had more of a thriller/mystery with it, it could have been better. Emily enjoyed it, which was surprising because she usually doesn't like movies like this. The film does drag towards the end, and could have been about 15-20 minutes shorter. Steinfeld is a terrific young actress(she's the girl from "True Grit") and has a good sassy quality about her. Costner and Hailee Steinfeld(his daughter in the movie) are great together. It's not a bad movie, but needed some more intrigue than what it has. From there bullets fly and the action picks up. While there a woman with a drug guaranteed to prolong his life makes an agreement to give him the drug if he kills for her. So he is let go and moves to Paris to mend his relationship with his daughter before he dies. Costner is a spy who gets cancer and only has a short time to live.
Only thing different is she isn't kidnapped and instead of Neesen we get Kevin Costner. Aging CIA operative with an estranged relationship with his daughter. Here he is just the producer, but you can see his finger prints all over it. Luc Besson is responsible for one of the best action/thrillers of the last 10 years, "Taken". Rating: PG-13 (Intense Sequences of Violence|Intense Sequences of Action|Language|Some Sensuality) However, in exchange for a potentially lifesaving drug, he must complete one final mission: apprehend one of the world's most ruthless terrorists while looking after his teenage offspring in her mother's absence.
